National Action Network is one of the leading civil rights organizations in the Nation, with chapters throughout the U.S. Founded in 1991 by Reverend Al Sharpton, NAN works within the spirit and tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to promote a modern civil rights agenda that includes the fight for one standard of justice, decency and equal opportunities for all people regardless of race, religion, national origin, and gender.
Saturday, January 5, 2013 marked the Swearing In Ceremony and Membership Rally of the newly formed Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the National Action Network (GCCNAN). Rev. Dr. Al Sharpton was present to officiate at the ceremony and delivered a message of change to the community. He asked young people to end gun violence and seek an education. “We expect this to be a great chapter that's (led) in Ohio. National politics is guided out of Ohio. Any civil rights organization in this salt, (it) needs to have their flag planted here and it's deeply planted here because of Bishop Hilton,” Sharpton said.
